100th Certified Catastrophe Risk Management Professional (CCRMP) Credential Awarded through the Experienced Industry Professional Pathway
Arlington, Va., April 19, 2021 – The International Society of Catastrophe Managers (ISCM), an association promoting catastrophe management professionalism within the insurance industry, and The CAS Institute (iCAS), a subsidiary of the Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS) offering specialty credentials in quantitative areas, announced they have awarded their first Certified Specialist in Catastrophe Risk (CSCR) credential through the examination process. This recipient joins the more than two dozen CSCRs who received their credentials through the Experienced Industry Professional (EIP)pathway, in addition to the more than 100 individuals who have received the Certified Catastrophe Risk Management Professional (CCRMP) designation through the EIP.
In 2018 the organizations introduced two new credentials for catastrophe risk professionals, the Certified Specialist in Catastrophe Risk (CSCR) and the Certified Catastrophe Risk Management Professional (CCRMP). The two credentials build upon knowledge and practice in this field and provide an objective benchmark for people working in the field to demonstrate and be recognized for their knowledge and skills in catastrophe risk. The 100 catastrophe risk professionals were awarded the CCRMP credential in recognition of their high-level competence as experienced practitioners in the field.
“The growth of the credentials illustrates the need for cat risk management to be recognized and valued as a profession. We’re pleased to partner with The CAS Institute to provide this opportunity.” ISCM President Shari Zola remarked. “We’re especially thrilled by the growing popularity of these designations internationally which highlights the number of truly talented people working in the field.”
Program Director Amy Brener noted that credential holders span the globe; in addition to credential holders in the US and Canada, other locations represented include London, Zurich, Australia, Bermuda, Japan, and Hong Kong.
“The CAS Institute is proud to have awarded the CCRMP and CSCR designations to these outstanding professionals in catastrophe management. Our continued partnership with ISCM allows us to provide resources and specialized credentials to this growing community in catastrophe risk management,” said iCAS President Joanne Spalla.
ISCM and iCAS are continuing to invite nominations for the CSCR and CCRMP credentials through each program’s Experienced Industry Professional Pathway. Those who do not meet the experience requirements for these applications can earn the credentials by examination; the four required exams and online course for the CSCR designation are now available through The Institutes.
