Registration is now open for The CAS Institute (iCAS) and the Insurance Data Management Association (IDMA) Joint Seminar on Insurance Data Concepts and Analytics!

Expand your knowledge and apply technical tools to manage, evaluate and organize data management and analytics, and network with industry professionals at our one-day workshop and networking reception this fall on Thursday, September 20 in Jersey City, New Jersey!


Workshop/Seminar: 9:30 AM – 4:30 PM @ Verisk Analytics/ISO, 545 Washington Blvd., Jersey City, NJ.
Networking Reception: 4:30 PM – 6:30 PM @ Dorrian’s, 555 Washington Blvd., Jersey City, NJ.

Co-hosted by iCAS and IDMA, this unique session will feature instruction and best practices on the following topics:

  • Metadata and metadata management
  • Public and private sources of data
  • Tidy data
  • Open source technology for working with data
  • Insurance Data-Driven Decision Making
  • Regulation and privacy issues
  • Data Governance Concepts
  • Case studies in data preparation (Bring a laptop!)


The workshop registration fee is $299 ($349 for non-iCAS or non-IDMA members) and includes morning and afternoon coffee breaks, lunch, reception and handout materials.

Attendees are eligible to receive up to 6 hours of Continuing Professional Education (CPD) credit from iCAS and 15 CPD credit from IDMA.

Louise Francis is the Consulting Principal and founder of Francis Analytics and Actuarial Data Mining, Inc. where she leads reserving, pricing, predictive modeling, simulation and related actuarial projects and engagements.

Ms. Francis has introduced insurance professionals to advanced modeling methods, including simulation, predictive modeling and text mining, both as a speaker at conferences and as an author of papers and articles. Five of her papers were awarded the Data Quality/Data Technology prize by the CAS and IDMA. The papers covered specific modeling procedures such as neural networks and MARS (multivariate adaptive regression splines) as well as leading edge data gathering techniques such as text mining. They also illustrated a variety of insurance applications including fraud modeling, reserving and underwriting. She has also won two awards for papers and essays related to the financial crisis. Ms. Francis is a former VP Research for the CAS. She is on the Joint Risk Management Council and is chair of the JRMS research committee. Ms. Francis is also the CAS representative and Secretary to the ASTIN committee. Ms. Francis has been involved in a number of other CAS initiatives, including estimating reserve variability, improving data quality, and reviewing papers for the CAS journal Variance. She is an instructor with Mark Shapland of the CAS Limited Attendance Seminar on Reserve Variability and routinely applies the methods she teaches in her practice.

Tracy Spadola is Vice President, Strategic Data Operations at ISO Solutions. She has over 30 years’ experience in data management and business and analytics consulting. She earned a Master’s Degree in Organizational Leadership from Quinnipiac University. She holds the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) and Certified Insurance Data Manager designations. She is a Fellow of the Insurance Data Management Association, and is a past President and Chair of the Board of Directors. She is currently the association’s Vice President of Business Development.
