Present at The IFoA’s Inaugural Data Science Virtual Event

Speaker Proposal Deadline January 14, 2019

On February 26-28, 2019 the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFoA) will hold its first Data Science Virtual Event. The event will offer attendees the opportunity to view live webinars from speakers with a wealth of knowledge in data science, alongside videos to showcase what actuaries are working on within the data science world. There will be case studies and presentations to view and the chance to find out more about this relevant subject matter. With a new webinar each day, attendees will have the opportunity to attend the sessions they wish and source the material relevant to their level of knowledge.

The IFoA is looking for speakers to showcase work they are currently undertaking in data science, how they apply it as a tool in their workplace, and training insights into how to learn more on the topic.

Topics include:

Data science in the workplace
Reflections on setting up a data science function, team or project within an actuarial organization. This might include establishing the business case, how challenges were overcome and achieving buy-in at all levels in the organization. Stories of effective collaboration between actuaries and data scientists would be of interest.

Getting started in data science
The focus of these sessions will be to help actuaries’ upskill and might include sessions covering models and techniques, data cleaning, workflows (including reproducibility of results), or useful tools and programming languages.

Application of data science techniques
Showcasing data science techniques in actuarial fields and beyond: AI, Automation, Machine learning modelling techniques, Etc.

Professional standards and ethics
Exploring the social implications of the data and algorithms used, our practices and the quality assurance • processes we follow to ensure this is done well.

Any other topics that might be of interest but don’t fit into the above categories

You will be able to present videos, presentations, papers and case studies that will be shared online for members all over the world.
